They certainly were. ;) Just pulled them out of my mailbox.

Once again my photography skills are found lacking as this picture doesn't do them any justice. (I sound like a broken record, don't I? ;) )

Durwood, do NOT sell yourself short. The frames look great! I'll be very proud to own one of these.

Thank you.

Well guys, now all we are waiting on are the pistons from Jason (4R8) and for me to get the stock roughed out for the cylinders and caps but I'll blame it on Jason. At least until he surfaces.

My plan on the cylinders is to turn them to size and cut them to length (1.19" if I remember correctly). I am also planning on milling the flat on one side and bore the hole for the piston, leaving it very small so you guys will have to finish boring/fit the piston. I am not planning on doing any of the other drilling as I'll leave that up to you. I'll be parting the caps off the same stock as the cylinders but I'd like to know how far you'd like to see me take them. Would just a plain disc/cylinder be okay or would you like me to take things a bit further? I kind of figured to leave them as discs as you'll need to fit them to the finished cylinders yourselves but let me know what you'd like as it would be very little trouble while they are already in the chuck.

I'll be sending an extra e-mail to Jason to make sure he knows where we are at but I don't know if he will even be able to get it. He wasn't real specific as to why he would be "out of touch" for a while but I hope he is doing well.

Not a thing wrong with that Turbo but I know how you feel. You're sending parts out to fellow enthusiast and you want them to be the best.

Ron, would it work to make the cylinders and caps as a single unit? If the hole were to be bored blind, we wouldn't need to worry about fitting or bolting the cap.

That was the way I was going to make mine, but can do it either way. Allow a little extra on the cap end just in case the piston is a little longer stroke or will have to make a cap then. Without the piston it will not be wise to guess.

Hmmm, that does seem to make sense. It will take someone with more knowledge about building these engines than I have (I've got "zip"!) to say whether or not we would run in to trouble if we tried it that way.

The only drawback I can think of is that it could affect the aesthetics of the final product.

I'd love to have some more input on this. That's for sure.

The bore was made straight through because it's simpler. Yes, it's an extra part, but I think it is easier to get a good bore if it isn't a blind hole. And no worries about depth of the hole, just blow right through. Caps also ad visual appeal, as Scrapmetal stated. You don't want to go too plain.

Anyway, if someone wants to do a blind bore and no endcap, that certainly is their perogative. I'll check the model and see how much clearance there is. The cylinder may have to be made just a little longer to accomodate. I'll post dims when I get a chance to look.

In my case it would be kind of "poetic" - a "blind bore" made by a "blind monkey"

I'll be real interested to see what you come up with.

Thanks much,

I just heard from Jason (4R8) and he was home for a brief stint and was able to ship out the pistons.

Once we decide how we want to go on the cylinders I'll start cranking them out and we'll have all our parts!

We're coming in to the home stretch,

Twist my arm. If you're going to take on cylinders, I can do endcaps, and the whole thing is taken care of. But you have to be mean, demanding and ruthless or I'll procrastinate. Besides, nobody likes ruth anyway.
